My first introduction into art was through an appreciation of its classical past. From prints of famous works such as, The Haywaine, Red Boy and Blue Boy. I grew up fascinated by the traditions of art. My admiration grew to encompass the works of the 18th century through to the beginnings of the 20th.
My great interest in history and military history introduced me to the very influential works of the likes of David, Gros, Lawrence, Gainsborough, Van Dyck, Canaletto and Ingres but to name a few. While my love of horses introduced me to the likes of Herring, Stubbs, Agasse and many more.
I believe there is a great deal to be learnt from the masters of the past, for their greatest works are their greatest gifts to us, artist and art lovers alike. We can learn from them and progress ourselves.
In my learning process I have tried to paint in the style of many of my favourite artists to better understand art itself. This includes reproducing some famous works as well as producing my own work in a very classical/traditional style.
I work in all sizes from small traditional to life sized. And on many surfaces from canvas (linen and cotton) to board and paper.
